1. Masaba Masaba (release date to be announced)

Designer Masaba Gupta has done it all—launched an eponymous label, collaborated with some of the biggest brands in the country, and carved a niche out for herself with her candour. But underneath all the confidence, Gupta is just another millennial. She’s trying to juggling a hectic job and a supportive family, and just starting to venture into the dating world. This scripted show on Netflix follows the young creative and gives a glimpse of the real moments in her life.

2. Bombay Begums (release date to be announced)

If you loved the unabashed depictions of femininity in Lipstick Under my Burkha, you will enjoy this new series set in contemporary India. Bombay Begums follows five women in the banking sector across generations as their ambition often comes in conflict with desire, ethics, personal crises and vulnerabilities. The show is directed by Alankrita Shrivastava and with the premise, you’re bound to see some characters you can relate with.

3. Messy (release date to be announced)

Beanie, an emerging stand-up comic from Mumbai, is dealing with too much—she has a boss to please at her day job, a best friend who just can’t be normal, parents who won’t leave her alone and her boyfriend just proposed. Of course a show following her is called Messy. The series is created and co-written by American actor and director Pavi Patel.

4. She (releasing on March 20, 2020)

There are not too many realistic stories about women police on television. She is here to fill that gap. The show follows an undercover cop as she goes on a journey to discover her sexuality. And did we mention she’s also taking down a drug cartel? With such a poignant premises the show is bound to break some stereotypes about just how women, especially those employed in traditionally male professions, are portrayed.

5. Hollywood (releasing on May 1, 2020)

American actor Darren Criss is very versatile. We saw him sing his heart out in the worldwide sensation Glee and watched him collect prestigious awards for his work in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. His latest project is unlike any he has done before. Hollywood is set in 1940s tinsel town and made by Ryan Murphy.

6. Space Force (release date to be announced)

For fans of The Office (read: everyone) the executive producer of the show Greg Daniels is reuniting with Steve Carell for another comedy. Space Force explores the inner workings of the newest branch of the United States military. In this scripted series Carell will be joined by John Malkovich, Ben Schwartz and Noah Emmerich—only comedy heavyweights in this club.

7. Bandish Bandits (release date to be announced)

This show has many good things to offer. First, the soundtrack for the series is composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy. Second, it stars Naseeruddin Shah and Atul Kulkarni. And it comes from the director of the feel-good Band Baaja Baaraat. Described as a ‘musical love story’ this show is bound to be a treat for music lovers.

8. The Last Hour (release date to be announced)

Asif Kapadia of Mindhunter fame is back, this time with a supernatural thriller under his sleeve. The Last Hour, set in a tranquil hill station in the Himalayas in a gritty show. It stars Sanjay Kapoor and Raima Sen as the lead characters. The team for the show includes producers Amit Kumar, Anupama Minz and Kapadia.

9. Mumbai Diaries 26/11 (release date to be announced)

We all watched in quiet horror as the terror attacks on Mumbai of November 26, 2008 played out live on television. Now the harrowing tale is being told again, this time from the lens of Nikhil Advani. The crime thriller stars darlings of the indie film scene Konkana Sharma, Tina Desai and Mohit Raina.

10. Sons of Soil: Jaipur Pink Panthers (release date to be announced)

Indians have been playing kabaddi since time immemorial, but it was only in the last few years that the game received the attention it deserves. Now Amazon Prime is putting the spotlight on the game again, this time with a documentary series following Abhishek Bachchan’s team Jaipur Pink Panthers. The show, produced by BBC India, will give a glimpse of the dedication of the athletes.

11. The Plot Against America (releasing on March 17, 2020) 

The alt-history drama The Plot Against America is based on a novel by Philip Roth. Featuring Winona Ryder and Zoe Kazan, the story follows Charles Lindbergh who is elected president just as anti-Semitism begins to rise among the masses.

12. Little Fires Everywhere (releasing on March 19, 2020) 

If you enjoyed the realism of Big Little Lies, you will love the dynamics in this show. Based on a 2017 novel by Celeste Ng, the story follows women who are on the opposite sides of the class divide in suburban Ohio. Starring Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon, this is bound to be the one of most talked-about shows of the year and it’s coming to India this march.
