Have you recently upgraded your PC to the latest Windows 10 OS and tried to install MS Office 2016 on it. However, when the installation is almost near to completion, you encounter an error message. It states – “Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2016 encountered an error during setup”. At worst cases, all measures to fix the issue may not work well.
Well, you’re not the only one but many users have faced this issue while trying to setup Microsoft Office 2016 on Windows. When you try to resolve this error you might also encounter an error that states– “Microsoft setup bootstrap has stopped working”. This problem is common when you uninstall an older Office version before installing MS Office 2016.
Well, don’t worry, here are a few things you can try out to fix the issue and complete the setup.
Method 1:
Press Windows + R keys to bring up the Run window
Paste the following code in it - % Programdata%
Next, rename Microsoft Help folder to Microsoft Help.Old
Now, reset your system, and reinstall Office offline
Method 2:
If Method 1 fails to fix the problem, you can still try out Method 2.
Uninstall the Office using Control Panel. If you are unable to do it, then go to this link to download the fixit tool - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501
After downloading the tool, uninstall MS Office suite which is installed on your computer
Now install Office suite again. But this time, you need to install it in clean boot
Not aware of how to go about a clean boot? Follow these steps –
1) In the Run command dialog box, type msconfig.exe
2) This brings up the System Configuration window
3) Select the option Selective startup, and uncheck all boxes under it
4) Hit on Apply
5) After clicking Apply, select Yes in the dialog box which pops up
6) Once the system reboots, it is set in the Clean boot mode
You can now install Microsoft Office 2016 suite in your computer
If the error is fixed, then good. But if you are still unable to solve the issue, then the problem could be severe. At this point, you might also lose access to the MS Office files.
