[MS Office Fix] There are No Products Affected by this Package Installed on this System

[MS Office Fix] There are No Products Affected by this Package Installed on this System
Many times when you try to install a Service Pack (SP), a hotfix or an update available for the Microsoft Office suite installed in your computer, the installation fails and you receive following error message:

There are no products affected by this package installed on this system.

This error message can appear for all Microsoft Office versions whether its Office 2003, 2007, 2013, 2016, etc. Recently an AskVG reader contacted us regarding this problem:

Can anyone help assist I'm trying to install Microsoft office and the installation doesn't complete. It say "There are no products affected by this package installed on this system". What does that even mean, what should I do?

One AskVG reader shared that he received the same error message while trying to install Service Pack 3 (SP3) for MS Office 2007 in his computer system. Another reader faced the same issue while installing SP1 for Office 2010 version.

So basically this error message can appear while installing service packs or regular updates released for all Microsoft Office suites.

Today in this tutorial, we'll try to list all possible solutions to fix the issue and to successfully install service packs and updates released for Microsoft Office suites.

SOLUTION 1: Double Check the Microsoft Office Version and Edition

First of all double-check the Office version and edition installed in your computer. For example, make sure the service pack or update is compatible with the MS Office version installed in your system.

It might be possible that you have Microsoft Office 2010 version installed and you are trying to install a service pack or update released for Office 2007 version.

Similarly, it might be possible that you have 64-bit edition of MS Office in your computer and you are trying to install 32-bit edition of service pack or update.

So if you find that you have downloaded the wrong version or edition of the service pack or update, re-download correct service pack or update and it should be installed without any problem.

You can check version and edition of Microsoft Office installed in your computer using "File -> Account" page or "File -> Help" page.

SOLUTION 2: Forcefully Install Service Pack or Update

If you are sure that the service pack or update is correct and matches with the version and edition of Microsoft Office installed in your computer, then you can forcefully install the service pack or update using following workaround:

1. Go to the folder containing executable file (EXE) of service pack or update.

2. Press and hold SHIFT key on your keyboard and right-click on empty area and select "Open Command Window here" or similar option.

PS: If you get "Open PowerShell window here" option, you can restore "Open Command Window here" option i context menu with the help of following tutorial:

[Windows 10 Tip] Restore "Open Command Window Here" Option in SHIFT+Right-Click Menu

3. Now in Command Prompt window, type the full name of service pack or update EXE file and add following string at the end:

PACKAGE.BYPASS.DETECTION.CHECK=1

For example, if the service pack or update file name is office 2013update.exe, then you'll need to run following command in Command Prompt window:

office 2013update.exe PACKAGE.BYPASS.DETECTION.CHECK=1

That's it. Now the service pack or update should be installed without any error message.

SOLUTION 3: Uninstall and Reinstall Microsoft Office in Your Computer

Sometimes it might be possible that you first installed a trial version of Microsoft Office in your computer and after sometime you converted it into full version using your genuine product key and now you are trying to install a service pack or update for it. In such cases, you might receive the above mentioned error message.

To solve this issue, first uninstall the existing version of Microsoft Office from your computer. Then install the full version of Microsoft Office and activate it using your product key. Now install the service pack or update and it'll install without any issues.
